António da Silva Leite (1759-1833)
António da Silva Leite (1759-1833) was appointed master of chapel in Oporto Cathedral, as well as in other Oporto‘s emerging liturgical music groupings. He wrote a variety of religious music pieces, used for many years in church’s ceremonies throughout the country. He produced countless pieces of profane music in several modalities, and dedicated great attention to the guitar, in which he became a highly praised theoretician by writing the first compendium of the kind published in Portugal.
