Aurélio Edler-Copes (1976 - )

Bachelor degree in Guitar at the Federal University, in Brazil, and in Composition at the Advanced Centre of Music of the Basque Country -MUSIKENE. Master in Composition at the Hochschule der Künste Bern with Georges Aperghis, CURSUS of Composition and Computer Music at IRCAM-Centre Pompidou Paris. He complements his training in international academies as Acanthes, Impuls, Injuve and Matrix.


Aurélio’s work has been performed by prestigious soloists and ensembles (such as Klangforum Wien, MusikFabrik, Quatuor Diotima, S.:i.c., Ensemble L’Itinéraire, Vortex Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, Ensemble Mosaik, Sond´Ar-te Ensemble, Orchestre National de Lorraine-France, Bilbao’s Symphonic Orchestra, The Basque Country Symphonic Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfônica de Minas Gerais-Brazil, among others) in important concert halls like the Concertgebouw, Reina Sofía Museum, Auditorio Nacional-Spain, Maison de la Radio de Geneve, SWR-Freiburg, Espace de Projection-IRCAM, Opéra de Bordeaux, Suginame Koukaidou de Tokio, etc.

He has received commissions by the French and Basque Governments, Fundación Autor-Spain, KREA, Phonos… and has been awarded at more than twenty International composition contests, between them the Roma Prize of the Ministry of Culture of Spain, being composer in residence at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome from 2010 to 2011, and the Prix Georges Wildenstein of the Académie de Beaux Arts in France, composer in residence / artistic member of the Casa Velázquez-French Academy in Madrid from 2011 to 2012. In 2013 he develops a some short residences at the GMEM, in Marseille, and at the GRAME in Lyon. From 2013 to 2016 he is associated composer at the Compagine Éclats from Bordeaux.
