João Vasco Almeida ( 1976 - )

A piano teacher at the Conservatório Nacional de Lisboa, his daily life has been divided between performing and teaching. He has performed in Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Brazil and, in Portugal, on stages such as those of the CCB, Gulbenkian Fundation, Culturgest and the D. Maria National Theatre. Along with the pianist José Brandão, João Vasco developed the project O Guardador de Canções (CCB, “Dias da Música” 2010, 2011 and 2012). João Vasco has also devoted considerable attention to promoting Portuguese music, particularly the Portuguese canção. In October 2010, he released the CD AlémFado, a compilation of fados arranged for a solo piano by various jazz and classical composers, such as Mário Laginha, Vasco Mendonça and João Madureira, among others, and in 2012 he will release two more recordings:PoèmeInachevée, with the Portuguese soprano Alexandra Moura, and 20 Fingers – From Mozart to Chico Buarque, a four-hand piano recital with Eduardo Jordão. With the Brazilian actor Alexandre Borges, João Vasco developed the project Poemabar, based on the poetry of Fernando Pessoa and Vinicius de Moraes, which has run in Brazil, Portugal and Germany and will go on tour in other Lusophone communities. João Vasco received an undergraduate degree from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa and a Master’s Degree in Musical Arts from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
