Afonso Teles

Afonso Gomes Ferreira Teles was born in 1993 in Aveiro.

Studied piano from 7 to 11 years of age. In 2007 he resumed his musical studies, studying classical guitar in the Conservatory of Beja, and later in the Conservatory of Évora, with the professors João Nunes and Nilton Esteves. He is currently finishing the 3rd year of the Bachelor’s Degree in Music - Composition in the University of Évora, where he studied with Christopher Bochmann, and is currently studying with Carlos Marecos.

Participated in various composition workshops/masterclasses/seminars with Miguel Azguime, António de Sousa Dias, Simon Emmerson, Diana Perez, Alicia Garcia, Sónia Carrilho, Christopher Bochmann and Nik Phelps (music for animated films). He also participated in conducting masterclasses with Kodo Yamagishi and in the “Jornadas Internacionais - Escola de Música da Sé de Évora” (Renaissance vocal music workshops) in 2014, oriented by Pedro Teixeira, Armando Possante, Owen Rees and Paulo Lourenço.

With his piece “O Elemento Ausente”(The Missing Element) he won the 1st prize in the composition competition of the XXXVI Music Festival of Póvoa de Varzim (2014). He also received an honourable mention in the SPA/Antena 2 composition competition of 2014, for his piece “Rituais Interrompidos” (Interrupted Rituals).


Currently a member of Ensemble Eborensis (vocal quartet dedicated to the music of the composers of the school of the Cathedral of Évora). Was also a member of several other choirs/vocal ensembles (Choir of the Conservatory of Évora, Choirs of the University of Évora [Classical and Jazz] and Vocal Ensemble Manuel Mendes).
