Fatima Fonte (1983 - )

Maria de Fátima Fonte Ferreira (1983) was born at S. Pedro de Rates, Póvoa de Varzim (Portugal). She started her musical studies at Escola de Música de S. Pedro de Rates, and proceeded with piano studies at Escola de Música Municipal da Póvoa de Varzim, and later at Conservatório Nacional de Música de Lisboa.Graduated in the subject of Composition at Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo do Porto (ESMAE) in 2008, where she had lessons with, among other teachers, Dimitris Andrikopoulos, Fernando Lapa, Eugénio Amorim and Marina Pikoul, and seminars with Magnus Lindberg.In July 2007, she won the Póvoa de Varzim International Composition Competition first prize on chamber music category with the piece “Civilização”. In 2008, Orquestra do Algarve played her piece “Verão”, and had a commission from the young talents prize (Prémio Jovens Músicos 2008), where “Arabesco” for solo bassoon was played.   Briefly she will spend six months in India, studying North Indian Classical Music, with a scholarship from Fundação Oriente.
