On December 2, 1804, Napoleon Bonarte (1769-1821) crowned himself the First Emperor of France, after the extinction of the Republic and the proclamation of the rst empire on May 18 this year. Despite not having royal blood, Napoleon sought to celebrate the acclamation by combining the republican spirit that came from the French Revolution (1789) with the fascination of royal solemnities, in a long ceremony full of parades and the celebration itself in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Jean-Françoix Lesueur (1760-1837), appointed master chapel of the Tuileries Palace in 1804, by the Emperor himself, was to compose, in addition to a vast collection of Oratorios and Operas, the Triumphal March of the Coronation of Napoleon Bonarte the 1st. This is a transcription of the French composer Joseph Vidal's adaptation for Orchesterd'Harmonie (Wind Band) (1859-1924) in 1903.
