Composer, conductor and cellist, Marco Pereira was born in Porto, in 2001.
As a composer, he studied composition, until today, with Pedro Santos and Dimitrios Andrikopoulos. In his formation, stands out his masterclasse with Dirk d’Ase and a seminar with Philippe Manoury at Casa da Música.
He has had his pieces performed regularly, standing out is recent collaboration with ensemble Sketch 351.
In 2021, he was awarded with the first place on the portuguese composition competition from S. Carlos Theater in Lisbon, “ABC...Compositores! Prémio Incentivo à Criação”, where his piece for symphonic orchestra “O Mostrengo” will be performed by the Symphonic Portuguese Orchestra, from S. Carlos Theater, next season (2021/2022).
As a conductor, he had some classes with the Spanish conductor Eduardo Martín Portal. Nowadays, he studies with the Portuguese conductor Cesário Costa, having debuted some contemporary pieces from young Portuguese composers and conducted Curso de Música Silva Monteiro’s 90 years opera (institution where he made his first musical education).
As a cellist, he worked with many orchestras standing out the Ensemble Symphonic Orchestra and the Festival dos Dias da Música Orchestra. He worked with different conductors like Cesário Costa, Jan Wierzba and Christopher Bochmann.
It is also important to refer is masterclass with the Portuguese cellist Paulo Gaio Lima.
In his curriculum he has many other awards, among others: Barcelos Rotary Club Award – young musician chosen to open the concert with the pianist Guigla Katsarava, in Fralães Festival (2016); Chamber Secondary Level Award – Excellent Gold Award in the IV Hong Kong Music Festival/Competition (2017) and the first award in Curso de Música Silva Monteiro Composition Competition (2019).
He has been invited to talk in music gatherings and comment pedagogical concerts repertoires.
Nowadays, he is a last year student from his graduation in Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo, Porto, studying with the Portuguese composer Rui Penha.
