João Carlos Alves studied in Madrid with Javier Bonet.
In 1998, he was invited by the School of Music in Lisbon to represent Portugal in the "Metals Group Erasmus Brass Ensemble".
Integrated several orchestras, including the Orquestra do Norte, Orquestra de Cascais e Oeiras, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra Calouste Gulbenkian, Orquestra Memória Musical, Orquestra de Camara de Sintra e a Companhia Portuguesa de Ópera. In 1995 was 1st horn orchestra "João Domingos Bomtempo". Between 1999 and 2001 was 1st horn of the Orquestra Clássica do Algarve.
Has performed in several countries such as Spain, England, France, Czech Republic and Brazil.
He has performed solo works by Mozart, Vivaldi, L.Cherubini, F. Strauss, GF Telemann and R.Schumann.
In 2005 he was invited to play the Sonata of Robert Helmschrott Chiesa in the Lisbon Cathedral, with Antonio Esteireiro in the final concert of the "master class" body guided by Hans-Hello Ericsson.
Is horn professor at the Conservatory of Torres Novas "Choral Phydellius" and Conservatório N.Sra do Cabo in Linda-a-Velha.
It is soloist in the Symphonic Band of the Public Security Police.
Together with the flutist Ana Carina Sousa is a founding member of the trio "Memória", whose repertoire is exclusively Portuguese. In 2007 he acted with this flutist at the International Festival of Autumn music in Aveiro.
It has dedicated several works to composers such as: Sérgio Azevedo, Abel Chaves, Fonseca e Costa, among others.
