From Leiria city, Portugal, João Gaspar is granted with the Merit Award for Best Student at Escola Profissional Metropolitana and gets a Merit Scholarship to accomplish the Bachelor degree at Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra. In 2018 gets the Master Degree in Music Education at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa.
As soloist had premiered in Portugal Brian Balmages Pele and Lee Actors Concerto for Horn and Band, a live recording to CD.
Gaspar released his first Album, “Postcards”, in 2021.
Have been performing with many orchestras and ensembles as European Union Youth Wind Orchestra, The World Orchestra, Orquestra de Jazz de Matosinhos, Orquestra XXI, Orquestra d’Almada, Ensemble do Movimento Patrimonial pela Música Portuguesa, Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa or Orquestra Gulbenkian.
Have been guest teacher in several masterclasses, most recently at Panstwowa Skola Muzyzcna w Krakowie, na Polónia, or Guatemala Horn Festival.
Gaspar is member of the Portuguese Air Force Band and teaches at Conservatório Regional de Artes do Montijo.
He is principal conductor of the Sociedade Filmarmónica Vestiariense Band and he was guest conductor he was invited to the Orquestra Sem Fronteiras and Orquestra Clássica da Madeira in 2020.
Besides the amount of arrangements for many ensembles as well as pedagogical repertoire, has many original works as “A Project Ouverture”, 2013 (Symphonic Band); “Vila Compasso”, musical, 2017; “Surprise”, 2017 (Symphonic Band); “O Mundo Maravilhoso das Toupeiras”, 2018 (Orchestra); “Pasteleira, 2019 (Solo Horn); “Tupho”, 2019 (Low Brass quartet); “Mrs Bassy”, 2020 (Bass Clarinet Solo and Duo); “Aircraft”, 2020 (Solo Horn); “Au Naturel”, 2020 (Solo Horn); “Baby Hippo”, 2020 (Solo Horn); “Downtown Walk”, 2020 (Solo Horn); “Sonho de Voar”, 2020 (Symphonic Band); “Depois da Roda”, 2020 (Brass Ensemble); “Antologia Intervencionista”, 2020 (Symphonic Band); “A Metamorfose de Orfeu”, 2020 (Symphonic Band).
João Gaspar is the author of the recognized children book Vila Compasso and “Sonho de Voar” educational project of the Portuguese Air Force Band, winner of the First National Defense and Equality Award from the National Defense Ministry.
