Jorge Prendas was born in Oporto in 1968. Started his musical studies at the age of 10. Studied in the Conservatory of Oporto where finished the intermediate course of Composition. After graduating in Computer Science by the University of Oporto, restarted his musical studies in the University of Aveiro choosing the course of Composition. In this University began to work composition and electronic music with his teachers like João Pedro Oliveira and Evgueny Zouldilkine.
Two of his electronic works were distinguished at the Musica Viva International Festival. In 2002 “A aparente ilusão de um som” got an Encouragement and was selected to be performed at the Seoul International Computer Music Festival 2002. In 2003 “Uma leitura possível para um poema de Eugénio de Andrade” was Honours Mention and was performed at the Festival Synthèse 2004 in Bourges. Jorge Prendas uses to write from different instruments and ensembles and some of his works have already been recorded in cd.
Actually teaches Composition, History of Music and Acoustics at the Academy of Music Óscar da Silva in Matosinhos and at the Academy and Professional School of Music in Espinho. In September 07 started to work at Casa da Música, Porto, in the Educational Service. Has already collaborated with Orquestra Nacional do Porto in educational concerts.
Jorge Prendas is also the founder of the most well known Portuguese “A cappella” group “Vozes da Rádio” with which has already recorded several cd’s.
