The promise is a Duet for violin and cello composed in 1993 and first performed by André Pons-Valdès and Vincent Gérin, to whom it was dedicated, in Paris, on 14 March 1994, at a concert organized by the association Le Triptyque. This duet revolves round a lengthy lyrical, nostalgic phrase whose development is interrupted from time to time by a meditative pause that prevents it from getting carried away by or wallowing in the pain, violence and exultation it contains within it, and allows it to journey towards completeness.
The two instruments accompany and support each other throughout, from the first notes to the last.
