Luiz Ferreira - Degree in Music (Percussion) from the University of Aveiro.
He began his musical studies at the School of Music of the Urrô Choral Group (Arouca), where he had as teachers, Mário Teixeira, Valdemar Noites and António Pinho.
Later he entered the Conservatory of Music of Porto, where he attended two years, having as advisor Jacob Oliveira. He then joined the Espinho Vocal School of Music, where he obtained training in Percussion.
His musical activity includes concerts in France, Holland, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and throughout the Portuguese territory. In his course, the training with names of great reference of the panorama of the percussion, like, Miguel Bernat, Manuel Fields, Paulo Oliveira, Nuno Aroso, Joaquim Alves and Mário Teixeira is indicated. He has completed several master classes in which he emphasizes, Zoltan Kocsis (HUN), Emanuel Sejourné (FR) and Elizabeth Davis (UK). Also worth mentioning is the participation as guest percussionist in the following orchestras: Filarmonia das Beiras, Orquestra do Norte, Musicare - Porto, National Orchestra of Winds of the Templars, Orquestra Clássica do Porto, Orquestra do Algarve. Participated in the recording of CDs with groups of chamber music.
At the moment he teaches percussion in the Vocational Course of Music of the Center of Artistic Formation of the Philharmonic Society Gualdim Pais in Tomar. He is a member of the groups Interpercussão, Puzzlensemble, Sonaris causis and Simantra-Percussion Group.
He has been teaching different Master Classes of Percussion, also in several National Conservatories, and in different countries. His most recent orientation is Master Class, at the Federal University of Bahia (where he participated with the duo Puzzlensemble - with clarinetist Bruno Graça). Percussion Festival 2 de Julho - Salvador da Bahia, Brazil - from July 19 to 26, 2010). In the area of composition, there are works performed in Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, Holland and Mexico, all of them dedicated to percussion.
Another role in which he has been committed and in which his original initiative has been recognized, is the Artistic Director of the Tomarimbando International Percussion Festival (which has taken place in the city of Tomar, where he teaches), where since 11 editions, has created a space and times, for the presentation of work done in Portugal and abroad, in the Percussion area.
