“Trava Lengas e Lenga Línguas”What qualities must the rhymes, chants and tongue twisters possess, so that they remain alive throughout the centuries though seldomly written down? These texts certainly have a great rhythmic quality and at times such insane meaning, that end up refreshing our days, or in other cases, providing very useful advice .There is no better poetry for child choral music than that of rhymes, chants or tongue twisters, since they manifest a collective will both fascinating and unconscious, a child’s natural and spontaneous choice which preserves a patrimony still free from mass- produced comercial exploitation. The choral parts of this composition seek to use the prosodic qualities of each of its five texts to make the melodies more memorable. Similarly, the instrumental parts are adequate for child performance. The present suite, whose title is a witty play on words, seeks to pay homage to Portuguese popular child culture.
