Vasco Mendonça (b. 1977) has had works performed in Europe, in venues such as Het Concertgebouw, Ysbreker (Amsterdam), Vredenburg (Utrecht), Beursschowburg (Brussels) and Casa da Música (Porto). Recent premieres include Reset (co-production Temps d’Image Festival/Muziektheater Transparant) and Cadaveri (recorded by the Trio Mediterrain at Classic Concert Records)
With pieces comissioned by various portuguese institutions, Mendonça has been performed in music festivals abroad, such as the Gaudeamus Music Week, the Haarlem International Choir Festival or the Ilios Music Festival.
Among the interpreters of his music are the Asko Ensemble, the Nieuw Ensemble, the Remix Ensemble, the Gulbenkian Orchestra and Porto National Orchestra.
His awards and distinctions include the Lopes Graça Composition Award 2004, and Composer in Residence at Casa da Música in 2007.
Mendonça graduated in Composition at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, after which he obtained his Mmus in Composition at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, under the orientation of Klaas de Vries.
