Ana de Ataíde Magalhães was born in Espinho in 1974. In 1993 she graduated from “Conservatório de Música do Porto”and continued her studies in composition at ESMAE. In 2008, she carried out professional teacher training at "Universidade de Aveiro".
In 2015, her work “In Memoriam” was one of the finalists of the “Cambridge Philharmonic Orchestra Call for Scores” contest and “Fanfare Dialogues”, winner of the “Two Minutes Première Project”, organized by the Trumpet Festival of the Southwest, at the University of Alabama , having had its première on January 16th, 2016.
She was invited by “Clarinetissimo.com Association” to write “Civitas Sancta Mariae”, for soloist and clarinet ensemble, later recorded by Josep Fuster and the Clarinetíssimo Ensemble, and featured on the group's 15th anniversary CD.
On april 18, 2019, upon the Portuguese Philharmonic Academic Orchestra debut, the full orchestra version of “In Memoriam” was performed and directed by Tobias Gossmann. As a composer Ana regularly collaborates, with different soloists and ensembles and her compositions have been performed in Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Italy and Mozambique. From 1999 to 2018, she was a teacher at “Conservatório de Música de Coimbra”, where, at the same time, she served as Director's Advisor. She currently lectures Analysis and Composition at “Conservatório de Música do Porto”, and dedicates her enthusiasm and endeavour in coaching young students to write music. Her works are being published by AVA Musical Editions.
