Vanessa Valério began her musical studies at the age of four at Academia de Música de Santa Cecília, where she studied Guitar with professor António Almas until the age of fifteen. Later she started studying Architecture at Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa where she completed the fourth year of her degree. She continued to study Guitar at the Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional and she also started studying Composition Technique and Musical Analysis with professor Eurico Carrapatoso.
In 2007 she entered the Composition Course at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa where she is currently attending the final year under the orientation of professors João Madureira, Carlos Marecos and Luís Tinoco. In May 2008 she participated in the organization of the musical event “Peças Frescas” in Lisbon, where she premiered three pieces which were broadcast live on Antena 2. In March 2009 her piece for Orchestra “Imagens” was premiered by musical director Joana Carneiro and the Gulbenkian Orchestra in the 7th Workshop for Young Portuguese Composers ran by the Gulbenkian Foundation. In June 2009 she premiered “Entre o Rio e o Mar...”, a trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano, a commission from the Cistermúsica Festival. In September 2009 she participated in the organization of “Encontro Nova Música 2009” in the Conservatório de Música de Cascais. She has attended several seminars with composers such as Emmanuel Nunes, Marc-André Dalbavie, Peter Hamel and Biagio Putignano.
